As a group we were given Clapham (Sw4) as an area to research and to construct our game around. Upon arrival at Clapham it was a lot bigger than expected and each member of the group was designated a particular area to research in contribution to the game in order to make it easier to find the places and to also learn about the area from each other. The first green space found was the one situated by Clapham common which was an open grass area; it had 3 ponds one of which was intended for boat modelling and a dog free zone for children to play and socialise. There was also a little café hidden behind the trees call the “bowling green café”. This space was the original selected green space but we never really went to Clapham together as a group to check up on the chosen areas, due to the different schedules, as a result of that there was a break down of communication, which led to slight tension in the group. The green space chosen was not close to any other places the rest of the group had selected as their individual spots, therefore we made a last minute change to the location of the park, not due to it being in the wrong postcode but in order to make it easier for the other team playing our game to find it but then by choosing locations too close to each other, it would limit the other team in terms of exploring Clapham as a whole. Putting together the game was not a group effort due to the breakdown in communication which is possibly why the opposing team found it hard to play the game, by working together as a team, different ideas and contributions could have helped to improve the quality of the game. If given the chance to re-do this project in the same group, a bit more enthusiasm and dedication should be inputted in order to get better results. Then came the day we had to play the other groups game in Walthamstow. As a game it worked well because they laid out their clues quite well, it was not too easy and not too hard, it kept us thinking and guessing and most importantly it encouraged us to work as a team despite our previous misunderstandings in order to complete the game. The reason I felt the game worked well and managed to fulfil the criteria of the exercise is because at the end of it educated the group on Walthamstow as an area and its diversity, culture and historical landmarks. I now know where the basic places such as the library, museums, church and town hall are situated. Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable and educational experience.
